The MA Food Plate: Choose Fresh & Local helps fund organizations working to build a stronger, more sustainable local food system across Massachusetts.

Your plate supports:

  • Mass Farmers Markets, helping grow and strengthen farmers markets across the state

  • New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, supporting new and beginning farmers and helping more people enter agriculture

  • Beginning Farmer Network of Massachusetts, connecting and supporting the next generation of farmers

  • Local agriculture and food access, helping keep farms, farmers markets, and local food businesses thriving

How to get yours

Getting your MA Food Plate is easy and can be done online through the Massachusetts RMV.

1. Make sure you’re eligible.
Your Massachusetts vehicle registration must be active and in good standing, and you must be the registered owner.

2. Log in to your MyMassGov account.

3. Go to the RMV’s special plate ordering page.
Choose “Choose Fresh & Local” from the available specialty plates.

4. Have your information ready.
You’ll need your vehicle registration information and expiration date.

5. Pay the fees.
The initial cost includes:

  • $20 one-time plate changeover fee

  • $40 special plate fee

  • $60 standard registration fee

That’s $120 total if you are switching an existing registration and the full registration fee applies. The $40 special plate fee includes a contribution to the organizations supported by the plate.

6. Watch your mailbox!
Your new plate, registration, and decal will be mailed to you.
